Warm yourself up with a Mid-Winter Fly-IN

AOPA NZ will host a mid winter fly-in during winter (of course), so get your winter woolies out and be prepared for some winter aviation action.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 7th July 2022 – FLY-IN CANCELLED [Read on below …]

We have discussed the weather forecast for Friday, Saturday and Sunday and have made the decision to cancel the Fly-in, primarily on safety grounds.

We had advertised this fly-in as rain hail or shine. When we initially considered the weekend we imagined that if difficult flying conditions existed on the West Coast side there would most likely be better conditions to the East leaving Wanaka accessible from the East Coast of the South Island allowing many people to use our Plan B.

It turns out that both Plan A and Plan B look challenging and there is forecasted widespread low cloud and precipitation mixed with a bit of wind. With this in mind we have decided to execute Plan C.

Plan C

1/ We have cancelled the Haast Fly-in 8th – 10th July

  • Please cancel your own accommodation.

2/ We will run a replacement Haast Fly-in

  • It will be in Haast
  • It may not be on a weekend
  • It will be called when a good weather pattern is forecast for both days
  • It will most likely be a single night with additional nights at your discretion
    • Arrive for lunch, maybe some afternoon flying
    • Milford will be an option
    • Social activity in the evening
    • Maybe some flying next day
    • Go home

3/ Because you registered for this Hasst 2022 you will be the first to know when  Plan C is activated.

Changing plans can be challenging, but it is 2022, so we are all well practised at being flexible.

I want to acknowledge how incredibly practical and supportive the Haast Heartland has been supporting us to make this change. Please express your thanks and support to them, or your other accommodation provider, when cancelling.

Any issues please ring or email

Thanks
