On the weekend of 28-30 April 2023, 75 private aircraft flew into Omarama for AOPA NZ’s fly-in weekend. 140 or so people came together for a weekend of aviation, socialising and flying talk.
On Saturday, the main flying day, pilots were split into groups of 10 or so planes per group, each with their own leader, and each with an itinerary of local airstrips to visit. Something for every aircraft type, level of experience and thirst for learning.
In this video, you’ll see the main safety briefing early on Saturday morning, and a few snippets of some of the resulting aviating. Keep an eye out for more detailed reports in the upcoming issue of Approach Magazine.
